March 19, Retrieved July 29, Almost Adults Movie. They have grown up in the same town all their lives and now in their late twenties still don't feel like they have really grown up, that they are adults.
They help each other through the good times and the bad including breakups, new jobs and huge life changes. The highs and lows of being an adult.
I had expected a fun I liked this book, the premise caught my attention and I easily found myself immersed in the centre of the group of girls; Nat, Mackie, Edele and Alex who have been friends forever.
I had expected a funnier book with a lot of laugh-out-loud moments and whilst there were moments like this, it also covers the struggles of making mistakes and learning from them and having a great group of friends who have your back.
It is truly a relatable and accurate account of growing up and I for one felt like the book was about myself at times, even in my thirties!
I think we all go through times where we feel we aren't a proper adult or don't really know where we are going with life. We all have setbacks, whatever they may be, and it's how we cope with these that allow us to grow in life.
Whilst I liked the characters I felt that they could have done with some development. I would also have liked to have seen more about Nat's therapy and Ed's unemployment.
One thing I really did like was it this wasn't all based on having to have a man on your arm. That finding yourself and making yourself happy was just as important as being in love and in a good relationship.
I often think that our own happiness is overlooked at times and chicklit books sometimes hook in to that theme. Overall, I liked this book and would read more from this author in the future.
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Random House UK for providing with an advanced copy of the book in return for an honest review.
Aug 07, booksofallkinds rated it really liked it. Four best friends are building their lives and together they have a strong relationship but individually their lives are hitting some hurdles that may change things for good.
Nat is happily in love with her long-term boyfriend whom she lives with so when he comes home from a night out and breaks up with her, she is devastated and completely lost.
Alex is a teacher who has a comfortable, loving relationship but she cannot help but question things in her life and wonders if she needs to make some changes.
Edele has lost her job and is back living at home with her mum and brother wondering how her life has taken this turn. And then there is Mackie who is fierce, independent and knows exactly what she wants from her career and her future, but something is missing that she can't quite put her finger on.
As each of these women begins to unpack their lives and their problems, their friendship will be more important than ever before because most of the time being an adult is plain hard work.
There is plenty of angst, drama, and life-changing decisions to be made, but the strength and support of their friendship was a sight to behold and there was never a dull moment with this gang of women.
ALMOST ADULTS by Ali Pantony is an entertaining story about morphing from one stage of life into another, and the relationships that will get you through the tougher times, and is sure to please fiction fans everywhere.

Real rating: 4,5 stars. I loved this book so much. The exploration of these almost adults as they try to figure out life, adulting, their jobs, their relationships and more.
The strong female friendships and lovely relationships. Definitely recommending this! Read my full review of Almost Adults on the blog!
Jun 12, cafeyre rated it it was amazing. I got interested in this book because of the amazing cover it has but the insight is just one hundred better.
All of them are struggling with their own problems and adults life. The bad breakup, loss of the job, insecurity of the relationship and going through interviews during the hunt of a new job are sitting on their minds and changing their lives from day to day but as they stick together everything becomes easier.
Their bond is unbreakable and stronger than anything. They are not only best friends, but they are also sisters. Even if any conflict will appear on their way they will go through it and forget about it right away.
They are always there for each other no matters what and where they are. Edele is a totally opposite type of person than Mackie is.
She is easy-going, spontaneous and unorganized with her life. On the other hand, she is very caring and would do everything for the people she loves.
Alex is the mix of them both. It looks like she got her life together and she has everything in her life that makes her happy but she always thinks that something is lucking there.
I think that she is a very insecure person who is scared of the future and scared of loss. Natasha goes through a lot and we can see a few of her faces.
The main thing I loved about this book is how real it is. There are no unbelievable miracles that happen in movies or most of the books.
Everything that happens in this girls life is their work nothing comes from the air. They are working for it and try to reach their own goals.
When I was reading this book I was thinking that this book will be very predictable but honestly, almost nothing happened that I thought will happen.
It was such nice for a chance to read a book like this. Another huge advantage of this book is a sense of humor. I have never marked as many quotes in the book as I did in this one.
I would like to thank so much Ali Pantony and Ebury Publishing for sending me this copy and for giving me a chance of being a part of this blog tour!
I was more than happy to read and review this book. A coming of age book Well I have friend envy! Four girls, Edele, Nat, Emma and Alex who are the best of friends and exploring all the stuff that goes with been a twenty something.
Normally I have a favourite character but not for this one, I liked them all equally. A lovely read that as a 28 year old I could completely resonate with.
The character development on this book was amazingggg! Jul 14, Sammy Jackson rated it it was amazing.
Apr 29, Alice rated it it was amazing. Loved it so much, really funny, quirky and loveble, moden day bridget Jones.
Jun 15, Bella rated it it was amazing Shelves: favourites , rom-coms , popsugar-reads , romcom-challenge.
This was an absolute phenomenal easy read. Gave me The bold type, Someone great and Girlfriends vibes. I don't usually love books written with multiple points of view and this one was written in all four Mackie, Edele, Alex and Nat.
The connection between all four characters is undeniable. All of them are unbelievably relatable in their own special way, battling personal hurdles of being in your late 20's.
This is perhaps my favourite read so far this year and I'm up to book If you love boo This was an absolute phenomenal easy read.
If you love books about heartache, female friendship and almost failing adulting and you haven't read this book and it's not on your to-read list, stop what you are doing and give it a read.
You won't regret it. I probably love this book so dearly because it really expresses the power and importance of female friendship.
I've always be a sucker for a love story and a happily ever after but also a friendship love story. I don't think they get told enough.
But just feeling them close by eased my frailty, as if they were somehow passing their collective strength into me. That's the difference between the touch of the friends you love and the person you're in love with: one keeps you grounded, reminding you of your existence and power; the latter takes something away making that tiny part of you theirs and not your own, ever again.
The way Ali Pantony describes the four characters and writes their points of view makes them not only come to life but actually feel like you are one of them.
A massive part of me wants to meet these girls at the local pub and catch up over wine. Maybe, all along, my friends were keeping some safe for me" Some of the scene's in this book I can so easily picturing having these very conversations with my girlfriends.
One of my favourite moments is between Nat and Edele when Edele asks if she can move in with Nat. I haven't got a clue how to bleed radiators, defrost a freezer, pump up my tyres, use a drill, test the smoke alarms.
I mean, we could die in a radiator explosion or from excess smoke inhalation or from some sort of freezer-related ice age, and then you'll wish you never moved in with me.
Seriously, I'm a terrible, shitty, pathetic excuse of a grown-up. I don't understand taxes or pensions, I just blindly look at the numbers on my payslip each month and hope it's fine.
I know we have a smart meter for our energy usage, but I don't know what the hell that means. There's a flashing light on the washing machine that's been there for months but I'm too lazy to be even remotely concerned about it.
I love the way they struggle through life together and help each other heal. All with struggles that feel painful in the gut when you read about them but you can hear them breathe relief when they know they have each other to lean on.
This is an incredible book about female friendship and I can't wait to read more of Ali Pantony's work. Jun 24, Agi rated it liked it Shelves: releases , Mackie, Ed, Alex and Nat or, as they call themselves, MEAN Girls are all starting to feel that they definitely should have their lives together.
They're all in late twenties, all have been friends for many years, and now they try to figure out how to be an adult, and what does it involve.
Firstly, Nat's boyfriend of seven years, ends their relationship, with no warning. Alex is scared her boyfriend is cheating on her, Ed is still living with her mum and lying about how well her job search is g Mackie, Ed, Alex and Nat or, as they call themselves, MEAN Girls are all starting to feel that they definitely should have their lives together.
Alex is scared her boyfriend is cheating on her, Ed is still living with her mum and lying about how well her job search is going, Mackie is trying to get out of the job she's just got.
What really worked for me in this story was the friendship between the girls. It felt real and honest, they were there for each other but it didn't feel too forced or unrealistic or overdone.
It was genuine, with ups and downs, like in real friendships, it was comforting and spirit lifting. Each of the four girls was unique, with their own voice and experience, and they brought the best to the relationship.
Individually they are all a real mess, but together it seems they can conquer the world, and I loved this feeling. The book is told from all four points of view and the author has really well pulled it off and the characters tell as it really is, highlighting all the highs and lows of being an adult.
But I wanted to tell, this is life, right, so please just pull yourselves together and stop feeling sorry. I mean, there were some funny moments, sure, and the girls were not flawless, they were making mistakes, so it should be a relatable, engaging read, but maybe I'm simply too old for such book already?
Sure, we all have moments when we really don't know what to do with our life, when we feel we are adults by mistake but I simply expected more from this story.
And, I think, something different - more fun, more humour, more hilarity because, once too much, it felt like the characters were only unhappy and complaining all the time.
What's more, I didn't care about the characters, I wasn't sure what the book wants to tell us - I probably simply didn't click with it as I expected to, and hoped to, based on the brilliant synopsis.
I liked the message in "Almost Adults", that really it's not all about having a man in your life but about finding yourself and this what makes you happy.
It was a story about true friendship, with its ups and downs, about making mistakes and learning from them and realising that being an adult doesn't mean you must have everything figured out.
The dynamics between the girls were so well captured and the writing style was light - hearted, and I am already looking forward to reading more from Ali Pantony.
